Having the right hardware is also an important factor in performance. dbCanvas servers implement Dual Xeon processors to give your applications balanced load sharing. The RAID 1+0 disk subsystem uses multiple drives like 1 single drive allowing the disk system to read and write much faster than conventional disk systems. This RAID system also allows us to replace hard drives without rebooting or even slowing down the server.

Lastly it's a fast Internet connection that's needed for your site to perform. Our network is multi-homed to several Tier 1 Internet Providers via OC12 redundant backbones. This means that your site is connected to the Internet at multiple locations with great speed and redundancy.

Security

The dbCanvas platform is engineered with your sites security in mind. Most web sites run on a server with many other sites, the greatest security problem with this is that other users on the web server are able to access your files. dbCanvas does run multiple sites on 1 single server, however each site runs in a 'sandbox' that limits its access. Each virtual server runs as its own user allowing it to employ much stricter file permissions. Using this technique also means that slower websites on the server will not impact the performance of the other virtual hosts.

Each website is also firewalled at the IP level. This prevents intruders from going where they're not supposed to, it also allows us to see intrusion patterns and identify worm outbreaks. This firewall also has sophisticated denial of service provisioning allowing it to stop denial of service attacks on the fly.

The dbCanvas server operating system is UNIX, this means that it is not vulnerable to the hacks, worms and viruses that Microsoft servers are vulnerable to. Viruses can even be safely stored on the dbCanvas server without affecting the server.

Each dbCanvas website comes with SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. Many hacks are a result of a hacker 'sniffing' your connection. A 'sniffer' will watch the Internet, recording usernames and passwords that it sees. To prevent this from happening you must encrypt your connection! If your connection is encrypted the sniffer can still see what you're doing, but it cannot decipher the encrypted data. You know that you're using SSL if your web URL is prefixed with https:// vs. http://.

Dual Xeon processors keep our servers at the top of their class backed by a minimum 2 gigs of ram.

Our network is multi-homed to several Tier 1 Internet Providers via OC12 redundant backbones. This means that dbCanvas has several routes connecting to the Internet allowing your site traffic to choose faster routes. In addition this provides redundancy in the event of network failure.

The dbCanvas data center is equipped with FM 200 fire suppression systems, redundant environmental controls, multiple layers of security, redundant UPS systems, dual diesel generators and natural gas generators.
